Zendaya joined Labrinth onstage in a surprise appearance during his Coachella set on Saturday night, much to the delight of fans.

The award-winning singer and actress, who confirmed she had ‘stepped away from music’ last year after a lenghty hiatus, was enthusiastically whooped and cheered as she walked into the spotlight in the Mojave Tent towards the end of British singer and rapper’s set.

She joined him partway through their Emmy-nominated hit I’m Tired, which featured on the soundtrack to the second season of the massively popular HBO teen drama series Euphoria, in which Zendaya, 26, stars as main character Rue.

The star, who has also scooped two Primetime Emmys for her performance on the show, also stayed to duet on All of Us, which was a big part of season one of Euphoria, for which Labrinth, 34, composed the score.

Wearing a pale pink corseted dress with frilly skirt over a white tank top, Zendaya – who was performing live for the first time in seven years – completed her look with lace-up, thigh-high black stiletto boots and large hoop earrings, keeping her long curly hair loose.

She started softly with her vocals on I’m Tired to match the mood and tone, before the energy was turned up for All of Us, which saw her and Labrinth – real name Timothy Lee McKenzie – dance around the stage.

Zendaya shared a sincere hug with her collaborator before leaving the stage as Labrinth then proceeded to wrap his set up.

The Spider-Man star took to Instagram following their performance to make a ‘tired joke’, zooming in on her face as she sang, ‘Hey lord, you know I’m tired,’ before pulling a pouty face.

She then followed that up with a heartfelt statement thanking Labrinth for ‘the most beautiful safe space’ as she also shared her appreciation for the reaction of fans.

‘I cannot express my gratitude for this magical night. Thank you to my brother @labrinth for inviting me and giving me the most beautiful safe space to be on a stage again,’ she wrote.

‘And to the crowd tonight… wow… my heart is so full, I can’t thank you enough for the love I received tonight, made all my nerves melt away, I’m so grateful.’

Zendaya, who rose to fame as a Disney Channel star, released her self-titled debut album 10 years ago, but has more recently been focusing on her acting career.

After I’m Tired dropped last March, she tweeted: ‘I stepped away from music quite a while ago, for a number of reasons, but I still really love it, so the kindness and support I’ve received the past few days just for a little tiny toe dip back into some music means the absolute world to me… thanks<3’

Labrinth has boasted a star-studded guest list at Coachella so far as he was also joined by Sia and dancer Maddie Ziegler to perform their song Thunderclouds, after Billie Eilish joined him last weekend for their track Never Felt So Alone.
