YouTube is developing AI-powered dubbing and other new features

The world’s favorite video hosting platform has created new and exciting features. Various reports say the company is developing an artificial intelligence tool for dubbing multiple languages. Also, it will become handle fan accounts more stricter than ever.

More importantly, YouTube may let you play video games soon. Technological advancements are becoming faster than ever, prompting companies to adapt and create new features to remain competitive. Consequently, massive corporations like YouTube have been testing unique user functionalities.

As a result, they would likely change how billions of people use this platform. Understanding these changes will allow you to benefit from this website fully. This article will discuss the latest YouTube features, such as AI-powered dubbing, video game support, and fan account confirmation.

AI-powered dubbing

On June 22, 2023, YouTube announced at VidCon that it would work with Aloud’s AI-dubbing service to add multiple language captions. The latter’s YouTube intro says it opens content creators to more international videos.

It showed video makers who said non-English viewers have been requesting translations into their languages. However, that can become too expensive for most creators. Fortunately, Aloud helps using artificial intelligence. According to its website, here’s how it works:

  1. The platform turns video dialogue into text.
  2. Next, users review and edit the transcription.
  3. Aloud translates and produces the dub. Also, users may choose various AI voices to match their style.
  4. Afterward, users may publish their videos in new languages.

According to The Verge, YouTube Chief Product Officer Amjad Hanif says the company is already testing the tool with “hundreds” of video makers. Moreover, the CPO says the AI platform supports a “few” languages with “more to come.”

Product Communications spokesperson Jessica Gibby specified Aloud is available in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. This YouTube feature could help content creators gain more international exposure despite the limited options.

The Chief Product Officer says YouTube is “working to make translated audio tracks sound like the creator’s voice, with more expression and lip sync.” Also, the spokesperson says these features will launch in 2024.

Fan channel policies

YouTube relies on content creators to gain and maintain online traffic. Consequently, the platform will protect their online identities further with new policies. The Google announcement says:

“We’re making some updates to our guidelines on impersonation that could impact you if you run a fan channel. If you operate a fan channel, you have to make it obvious in your channel name or handle that your channel doesn’t represent the original creator, artist, or entity.”

Its writer, Rob from TeamYouTube, says the company will implement these changes on August 21, 2023. Then, the company will not allow channels that impersonate others while identifying as a “fan account.”

YouTube will not tolerate channels with the same banners or avatars. Moreover, it will not allow channels that have similar names with different symbols. For example, you can’t name your channel “some0rdinarygamers” because “SomeOrdinaryGamers” already exists.

YouTube representative Ivy Choi told The Verge, “Content intended to impersonate a person or channel is not allowed on YouTube. Starting today, to further protect Creators from impersonation and help viewers better identify content from fan channels, we’re requiring fan channels to explicitly state so in their channel name or handle.

Tech news website 9to5Google says fan channel owners must explicitly state they are fan channels. Specifically, such a channel must inform viewers it “does not represent the original creator, artist, or entity that the channel is celebrating.”

YouTube games

This video hosting platform contains numerous video game content. For example, you can watch game reviews, tutorials, and player streams. That is why YouTube features will focus more on this type of media.

According to Eurogamer, the Wall Street Journal reported a unique feature called Playables. They will enable users to play online games on YouTube via the website or mobile app.

WSJ cited an email to Google employees, saying the project is under development. The company is encouraging staff to join the process. Also, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan explains Playables will help find new areas of growth following decreasing advertising spending.

The WSJ report only highlighted one available title called Stack Bounce. It is a casual arcade game that involves breaking bricks by bouncing a ball into them.

At the time of writing, the company has not specified when Playables will publicly launch. “Gaming has long been a focus at YouTube,” a Google representative told WSJ. “We’re always experimenting with new features but have nothing to announce now.”

Conclusion

New and unique YouTube features are under development. These will expand its content to more international viewers and bring new user experiences.

The video hosting platform needs to adapt as more competitors emerge. For example, Twitch and Kick have improved with more features and viewers.

Nevertheless, these upgrades are hugely beneficial for users worldwide. Learn additional tips and trends regarding artificial intelligence, gadgets, apps, and more at Inquirer Tech.
