Your FOUR-YEAR-OLD can learn to drive in an all-British electric ‘supercar’
MOST of us started learning to drive when we were 17, but there is a way your kids can get ahead of the game.
Young Driver has been around since 2009, letting kids as young as four get behind the wheel of a car in a safe environment.
But with the introduction of its new Firefly Sport, kids will be able to feel what it’s like to drive a proper car even more readily.
The Firefly Sport is a small electric car with a supercar design built by a group of engineers, all with long careers at car manufacturers such as Land Rover and Aston Martin.
The little EV is also completely British – even its batteries come from Bournemouth and Bromsgrove.
The Firefly has two electric motors and depending on the gearbox chosen, can top out at between 7- and 25mph.
Worried parents can disable the car remotely within 200m or, for the youngest drivers, the car will disable itself if faced with an obstacle should you want it to.
Inside there are seats for two kids, a set of digital dials for the driver, a screen for a reversing camera and switches for the car’s indicators and lights.

They’ve even considered our changeable weather – there’s the option of a roof to keep the rain off too.
Firefly Sport will be available for 4- to 10-year-old drivers at 45 of Young Driver’s training centres across the UK, costing from £20 for a 15-minute drive.
If you have a big enough garden, there’s also the option to buy a Firefly Sport for around £10,000. Final pricing will be announced soon.
“Firefly Sport is a fully-fledged, scaled-down motor car,” said Ian Mulingani, YDMC’s managing director.
“From its launch this month it will allow 4- to 10-year-olds the chance to get behind the wheel and have an authentic motoring experience, thanks to this model’s sophisticated design and componentry, which fundamentally mirror the way a road car behaves, but at fully manageable speeds.”
