Your dog could score you free UK holidays for a year – here’s how
The hardest part about planning a holiday as a dog parent is deciding whether to find somewhere pet-friendly (usually pricey) or leave your fur baby behind.
But with Canine Cottage’s annual Canine Critics competition, your pet could actually land a job reviewing dog-friendly holidays around the UK – and you get to go along for the ride too.
The winner will get to embark on four UK holidays and review Canine Cottage’s holiday homes all across the country, from Scotland to the South Coast.
That’s £4,000 worth of holidays as well as a prize bundle.
There’ll also be extra prizes for lucky competitors who don’t quite make the cut: two runners-up and five randomly-selected pups will receive a £1,000 holiday voucher each.
The judges for the sixth annual competition include Aneisha and Jack, founders of innovative pet food brand Scrumbles, Darcy and Darla, who won in 2022, and Battersea’s Head of Canine Behaviour and star of ITV’s Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs, Ali Taylor.
‘I’m delighted to be invited back on the Canine Critics judging panel for another year with Canine Cottages,’ said Ali.
‘At Battersea, we are proud to be there for every dog and cat, taking them in and caring for them regardless of their age, breed or medical condition and without judgement.
‘It is great to see that Canine Cottages is similarly dedicated to welcoming all dogs, no matter what breed, to their dog-friendly cottages.’
Head of Customer Marketing for Canine Cottages, Emma Crowe, added: ‘Choosing the winner from thousands of entries is a tough job. That’s why we have a pack of experts on our judging panel, each looking for something different in our applicants.
‘This year, we’re not just choosing one top dog, but also two runners-up who will be wagging their tails with pride, and five randomly selected winners who will be howling with happiness.’
You don’t need to have travelled with Canine Cottages previously to apply, and previous applicants may also enter. All you need is a charismatic dog that loves exploring.
The competition page states judges are looking for ‘a “real” dog with character and a great story to tell.’
It continues: ‘Personality is waaaay more important than pedigree for this gig!
‘Successful applicants will love to travel, enjoy sniffing out new adventures and not mind posing for photographs. They’ll also need to have a willing human or two on hand to accompany them and document their adventures for our website.’
