Your Alexa may have been recording you accidentally – how to hear what taped

YOUR Amazon Alexa may be smart but it can make a silly mistake: recording you accidentally.

If you’ve had an Alexa for a while, you’ve probably been taped without realising it.

That’s because the Amazon speaker is triggered by a wake word: “Alexa”.

And it’s possible (and even likely) that Alexa has thought you’ve said her name when you haven’t.

Your Alexa keeps a recording log of everything you’ve said to her that you can check at any time.

So it’s easy to listen back to see if Alexa has caught any conversations that it shouldn’t have.

And you can delete those false recordings too, if you want.

View them in the Alexa app by going to More > Settings > Alexa Privacy > Review Voice History.

Even better, you can stop Alexa from keeping recordings of your voice altogether.

Simply go to Settings > Alexa Privacy > Manage Your Alexa Data and click Don’t Save Recordings.

Then scroll down and turn Use of Voice Recordings to off.

This stops Alexa from taking any recordings of your voice.

However more useful might be to set the voice recordings to simply delete automatically after three months.

That’s because having voice recordings enabled can actually be useful.

“Voice recordings are used to improve the accuracy of your interactions with Alexa,” Amazon explains.

“Deleting voice recordings associated with your account may degrade your experience.”

But Amazon adds: “Voice recordings are visible until the deletion request has finished processing.”

Bear in mind that if you have Help Improve Alexa ticked with Use of Voice Recordings, your tapes may be listened to be human reviewers.

So consider disabling this is you’re very cautious about your privacy.
