Young teenage boy shot and killed in Homan Square alley
CHICAGO (CBS) — A young teenage boy was shot and killed in an alley in the Homan Square neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
At 2:04 p.m., the boy — approximately 14 years old — was found dead in an alley behind the 3600 block of West Flournoy Street with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
Many Chicago students are on spring break this week.
Someone said off camera that they were working behind the alleyway when they heard about four or five shots. They came running to see what happened.
Area Four detectives are investigating. Detectives were laying down evidence markers at the scene just after 4 p.m., and crime scene tape was in place. They also scoped out the area at houses beyond the block where the shooting happened — asking if anyone saw anything.
Police had reopened the street by 5 p.m., but the investigation is not over — as the assailant or assailants are still on the loose.
We spoke with the neighbors who stopped by to see what happened, they were all saying the same thing. They said they are sick of the violence happening in their neighborhood – especially to young people.
We do not yet know the motivations for this attack, if any. There do not seem to be any cameras pointing inside the alleyway where it happened.
