Scarlet Witch’s son Wiccan just proved himself as part of the key to saving the Marvel universe from Dormammu’s assault in Last Annihilation.

Billy Kaplan — aka Wiccan — is one of the sons of the Scarlet Witch and Vision. Crafted via magic by the Scarlet Witch, Wiccan (and his brother Tommy, aka Speed) were reborn and had the chance to lead normal lives for a time. But after discovering his powers, Billy became a founding member of the Young Avengers and fell in love with his teammate Teddy, aka Hulking. The pair are now among the more prominent romances in the Marvel Universe, even cementing their relationship by getting married (as revealed in Empyre).
But the soft-spoken young man also remains one of Marvel’s most quietly powerful figures, capable of changing the future of the Marvel Universe itself. It’s this power that really showcases itself in The Last Annihilation: Wiccan & Hulking #1 (by Anthony Oliveria, Jan Bazaloua, Rachelle Rosenberg, and VC’s Ariana Maher), with Wiccan having an impressive showing across the issue.
As the Emperor of the Kree/Skrull Alliance, Hulking has been forced to take to the front-lines of the conflict against the forces of Dormammu during his most recent invasion into the reality of Earth-616. While Wiccan ventures to Skrullos to try and repair the shattered space sword known as Excelsior, Hulking has found himself working alongside S.W.O.R.D. and the Guardians of the Galaxy to hold back the armadas that rush both worlds. If Dormammu is able to complete his galactic sigil, he’ll gain even more power than ever before and be more than capable of finally conquering the core-Marvel Universe.
While Hulking is largely distracted working with his fellow heroes on Hala (and finding themselves cornered by a powerful bomb hidden at the core of an outdated and corrupted Supreme Intelligence copy), Wiccan relocates to Ny’Ni-Ahn, one of the holiest places on the ancient Skrull world. There, he sets about his work to repair the blade — only for Dormammu himself to appear on the planet and confront Wiccan. Referring to him as Demiurge — the villainous variant of Billy Kaplin possessed by the evil sorcerer Moridun from Earth-20XX — Dormammu notes that Billy is a genuine mystical powerhouse, but has not yet reached his true potential. Taking up Wiccan in his arms, Dormammu considers killing him and “taking care of the fatal egg before the serpent hatches.”

But this gives Wiccan an opening to drain mystical energy directly from Dormammu — giving him more than enough power to repair the shattered Excelsior. Then, using the Nega-Band wedding rings he shares with Hulking, the pair are able to swap places from across the galaxy. This allows Hulking to take up the enchanted and magic-negating blade and run it through Dormammu’s chest (and hopefully doing some serious damage to the monstrous magical threat) while Wiccan arrives back on Hala and is able to redirect the explosions’ planet-bursting potential directly at Dormammu’s approaching forces — effectively giving the defenders of the universe a major win over Dormammu.
Wiccan’s sheer power and potential is on full display during the battle and serves as a good reminder of just how powerful the son of the Scarlet Witch really is. It’s also a fair warning to someone like Abigail Brand, who is already playing a dangerous game with S.W.O.R.D. while trying to cement the organization (and Krakoa) as a major part of the future of the Marvel Universe. She’s been hiding the death of the Scarlet Witch as a result in an attempt to keep Wiccan and Hulking from being furious, and with his sheer potential, he could bring a lot of trouble to the universe if he felt so inclined.
