You won’t want to miss the next Nintendo Direct

The next Nintendo Direct conference is shaping up to be a big one. Based on comments made by legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, a new mainline Mario game could be announced soon. With the recent release of the new Super Mario Bros. Movie, not to mention the fact that Super Mario Odyssey launched for the Nintendo Switch all the way back in 2017, the timing certainly feels right for Nintendo to make a big announcement. The company is likely to hold a major Nintendo Direct presentation in June, so fingers crossed we find out more then.

Rumours of a new Mario game started to circulate after Shigeru Miyamoto spoke to Variety about the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Asked when fans could expect a new Mario game, Miyamoto said: “Well, all I can say is please stay tuned for future Nintendo Directs.”

If you watch the Variety interview below, Miyamoto answered the question with a mischevious grin, which suggests something is in the works.

If we do get a new Mario game this year, then 2023 will go down as one of the best ever for Nintendo fans, especially with the impending release of Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The upcoming Zelda sequel has a May 12 release date, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

The new game will feature a selection of floating islands, which can be found in the skies above Hyrule.

Link can travel to the floating islands by using his new rewind function on rocks that have fallen to the ground.

Another neat new feature is the ability to fuse items together to make new weapons. For example, Link can construct a makeshift hammer by combining a stick with a rock. Likewise, you can create a cloud of smoke by adding a puffshroom to your shield.

Link can even create his very own speedboats and aircraft using his new abilities.
