‘You got me.’ Blue Jays’ Guerrero signs ball for Rays outfielder after strikeout

The Blue Jays registered one of their most lopsided wins in franchise history on Tuesday when they annihilated the Tampa Bay Rays 20-1. But first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who hit a grand slam for his part, still came away with a moment of humility after the game.

In the eighth inning as the Jays stood comfortably with a 10-1 score, Rays outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley entered the game to pitch, as Tampa decided they’d rest their bullpen with the game out of hand.

Raley managed to strike out Guerrero Jr. — on a 50 mph meatball, no less — and both players exchanged smiles as the Jays star headed to the dugout.

The 24-year-old slugger apparently took the incident lightly, as he later signed the strikeout ball as a keepsake for Raley, according to Rays’ sideline reporter Tricia Whitaker.

“You got me,” he Guerrero below his signature.

Guerrero got the last laugh, however, as he went on to hit the grand slam off Raley in the next inning — adding to what had already become a trouncing with the Jays scoring 10 runs on position players. In the end, Raley was charged with seven runs and recorded five outs.

There’s no word on whether Raley returned the signing favour with the home run ball, which landed several rows up into the left field stands.
