Yorkshire chip shop deep fries hot cross buns with Nutella inside
A chippy in Hull has come up with a revolutionary way to enjoy the humble hot cross bun.
Papa’s Fish and Chips has made a name for itself over the past few years by deep frying various foods – including a two-foot-long pig in blanket and a Colin the caterpillar cake.
And, with Easter upon us, the team have decided it’s the perfect time for the tea-time treat to get a twist.
Marketing manager Danny Allen, 32, came up with a new way to enjoy a hot cross bun: by deep frying it and stuffing it with Nutella.
Now, the creation features on Papa’s Fish and Chip menus across the country for £4.49.
So, if you love a deep fried Mars bar, this could be another sweet-yet-savoury option for you – to mark the bank holiday.
Danny said: ‘I thought it was absolutely lovely, the mix of all the flavours was great. Definitely one of the better ones we’ve done.
‘We used doughnut batter due to the thickness of it and rolled a standard hot cross bun that we had cut open and stuffed with Nutella – and we then deep fried it for about a minute and a half.
‘From the outside looking in a few people may think it might taste a bit weird but it was surprisingly lovely, I’d easily give it a solid 10 out of 10 for flavour.’
Last year, the venue offered a deep fried Easter egg – but Danny says this time around they wanted to try something a little different.
However, it seems the traditional hot cross bun on its own will always hold a place in Danny’s heart.
‘I would always just stick with the original,’ Danny added, ‘I’ve seen all manor of flavours about this year but I love the classic.’
