YG Entertainment revealed an all-Korean quintet for boy group TREASURE’s first subunit—T5, which is expected to debut next month.

The line-up consists of So Jung Hwan, Junkyu, Yoon Jae Hyuk, Doyoung, and Jihoon who is one of the leaders of the “Jikjin” hitmaker.

In a video uploaded on the group’s official YouTube channel, YG founder and executive producer Yang Hyun Suk announced the plan of debuting a subunit, which he said was formed by asking members of TREASURE to raise their hand if they think they’re the most handsome in the group.

After the announcement, members of T5 were revealed one by one—one member was revealed per day—with youngest member So Jung Hwan named the first member on June 12.

In the same video, he also bared plans of debuting the five-member unit ahead of the release of TREASURE’s second full album. The second full album, targeted for release in August, is set to contain only new songs.

Yang Hyun Suk also plans to incorporate a new promotion method for the subunit’s debut which is releasing a choreography video before the release of the official music video. This method, he shared, has never been done by the company.

TREASURE, originally a 12-member group, made their debut in August 2020 with the release of their single “Boy,” which will later be succeeded by other singles such as “I Love You,” “My Treasure,” and “Hello.” In November 2022, YG announced that long-time trainees Bang Ye Dam and Mashiho will be leaving the group and the company.
