Yahoo DFS Picks Week 7: NFL DFS lineup advice for daily fantasy football GPP tournaments

This may be one of the most challenging weeks for those in daily fantasy football contests and season-long owners alike. With 12 teams on bye or in standalone games, the pickings are as slim as they’ve been all season. That said, we can still take advantage of sneaky value and combine it with studs to chase a high finish in Yahoo DFS tournaments. As always, you can mirror our picks completely or use them as a mere reference point to craft a high-quality daily team with unique picks.

With Josh Allen, Ezekiel Elliot, Jonathan Taylor, Mike Williams, and numerous other fantasy studs unavailable to us this week, it should be an equally fun and challenging week. This is where savvy DFS players can separate themselves with so many headliners out of commission. Click here for the full list of teams on a bye. As always, the players from Thursday, Sunday, and Monday Night Football are off the main slate, too.

WEEK 7 STANDARD RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker

Before we break down our picks, just a reminder of some key rules for Yahoo DFS. It’s essentially the same as FanDuel, with four-point passing TDs and half-point PPR.

  • It’s not always pleasing to the eye, but Hurts has flirted with the 30-point marker on three occasions, topping out at 28.76 in Philadelphia’s Week 1 victory over the Falcons. The Eagles are still only running the ball on 37.4 percent of their plays. Of the Eagles’ 132 rush attempts, Hurts has accounted for 40.2 percent (53) of them. The return of right tackle Lane Johnson (personal)mightprompt head coach Nick Sirianni to dial up a few more run plays, but we’ll believe it when we see it.

  • We know the type of ceiling Jones brings to the table, ashe flirted with a 40-spot in a Week 2 win over the Lions. Even if we’re destined for something a bit more modest, we still love his three-pronged usage in the run game, pass game, and red zone. Washington’s defense has been gashed this season while Green Bay is ranked No. 10 in offensive DVOA. Some Las Vegas sportsbooks opened the Packers as high as 10-point home favorites.

  • The Rams are laying as many as 15 points at Vegas shops, painting the picture of what should be a lopsided victory over a Lions team that has been largely hapless this season. Henderson handled a season-high 23 touches in Week 6 and found the end zone twice. If this score gets out of hand, Sony Michel will likely get a decent workload, but Henderson will have done plenty to lead the team to that point.

  • The target faucet was turned back on in Week 6, as quarterback Davis Mills looked in Cooks’ direction 13 times. Cooks finished with a relatively tepid nine receptions and 89 yards, but when a player with Cooks’ ability receives the degree of volume that’s been flowing his way, explosive performances will be in the cards.

  • This feels like point chasing after Waddle scored a pair of touchdowns in London, but the figure that we’re most attracted to is “13,” the number of targets he’s received in two of his past four games. Waddle gained just 70 yards on 10 grabs against the Jaguars last week, but we know that big-play ability is a characteristic woven into his profile. It won’t be long before Waddle starts turning his enviable volume into more explosive plays.

  • We’ve seen a few glimpses of Ruggs’ explosive playmaking ability, including in last week’s win over the Broncos. While his four targets were disappointing, it was nice to see the Raiders target him early. It’s still worth keeping a close eye on Ruggs in the wake of the coaching staff shakeup. He’s seen seven targets on a pair of occasions, and if new voices and philosophies emerge in the game-planning process, we may start to see Ruggs used a little more liberally as opposed to being limited to his role as a deep-shot specialist.

  • Following the Eagles’ trade of Zach Ertz to the Cardinals, Goedert essentially has the tight end gig to himself. He missed Week 6 against the Buccaneers while on the COVID/reserve list, but even prior to that contest, he trailed Ertz 25-to-19 in the target department. Without another tight end in line to eat into Goedert’s workload — Jack Stoll was third in snaps among Eagles tight ends with 47 — Goedert should be in store for a few “smash” spots. He’s averaging 14.4 yards per catch and has a pair of touchdowns, so there’s a lot to like from Goedert going forward.

  • The Chiefs had no issue handing their backup running back a full workload. Williams ended last week’s win with 24 touches, and while his 89 total yards lacked a desired level of efficiency, he found the end zone twice and finished with 22.4 fantasy points. If the Chiefs are going to load him with touches and provide him with scoring opportunities, we’re going to call his name.

  • The Patriots may be the most appealing defense on the board this week, though they’re “only” seven-point home favorites ahead of their matchup with the Jets. The Pats sacked and picked off rookie Zach Wilson four times apiece and only allowed a pair of field goals. The final fantasy tally was 19 points. The Jets will –presumably– make some adjustments this week, but we’re not going to give them the benefit of the doubt just yet.
