Nightcrawler’s ideas for the future of the X-Men’s Krakoa include a new team of mutant heroes with a specific mission and a unique roster.

Way of X has largely focused on Nightcrawler’s attempts to craft a mutant faith system while also contending with the corrosive psionic influence of Onslaught. But by realizing the full potential of his new way of living — known as the Spark — the long-time X-Man is able to earn Krakoa a major win.
In the aftermath of his victory in X-Men: The Onslaught Revelation #1 by Si Spurrier, Bob Quinn, Java Tartaglia, and VC’s Clayton Cowles, Nightcrawler has another idea on how to help Krakoa — forming a brand new team known as the Legionarres.
The defeat of Onslaught is a major victory for Krakoa, and specifically Nightcrawler — who has found in this challenge the true motivation to plot out his “mutant religion.” Describing it less as a religion and more as a philosophy and way of life, the Spark is defined by its dedication to allowing people to grow and change and become part of a united and collective people. It doesn’t force anyone to abandon their old views and faiths but instead embrace the world and those around them — regardless if they’ll exist for a minute or millennia. It codifies the idea that mutants are allowed to fight for their happiness and the happiness of others, with Lost and Fabian Cortez embracing the message and spreading it. It also inspires Nightcrawler to pitch Legion on a new idea he’s had: a brand new branch of the Spark.
Nightcrawler pitches that the team be nominally based out of the Alter — the safe space of the Astral Plane that Legion has constructed on Arakko. In essence, they’d serve as the protectors of the mutant race, dedicated to defending the innocent. In essence, Nightcrawler is arguing for a Krakoa police force, dedicated to helping others in ways that the state defense (X-Force) and investigative (X-Factor) branches of Krakoa aren’t necessarily designed to handle. Nightcrawler even suggests naming them Legionnaires, tying them into the Omega-Level Mutant and likely cementing Legion at the center of the future of the group (especially if they’re based out of the Alter).
Nightcrawler likely already has a number of recruits in mind, as the issue ends with a minor teaser for the group — and its potential roster. Front and center is Nightcrawler, with two of his chief allies from Way of X (Pixie and Doctor Nemesis) behind him. Dust is also seemingly present given the storm of sand flowing around the team, suggesting she’ll be a part of the group. Other apparent recruits seem to include Juggernaut (who’d previously not been granted a place on Krakoa), Forget-Me-Not, and perhaps most interestingly Blindfold — a precog mutant who shared a romance with Legion and has not been restored thanks to Moira’s rule against mutants who can see the future. While other allies like Stacy X and Dazzler aren’t seen among them, they could also easily become parts of the group.
It’s an interesting lineup, who raise all sorts of questions already. Juggernaut and Blindfold are both serious changes to the current laws of Krakoa, so it’s clear things have shifted in the time-jump that occurs between the defeat of Onslaught and Nightcrawler’s conversation with Legion about the idea. Nightcrawler also seems more than happy to form the team regardless of how the Quiet Council reacts and even seems to like that they’ll be unhappy with the new branch — suggesting he and the rest of the Quiet Council are on harsher terms. With the future barrelling towards Krakoa and the mutant race, it’s good to know there will be new teams prepared to handle the challenges that come ahead.
