WWE’s Sami Zayn wants to replace Matt Lucas on Great British Bake Off
The former Intercontinental Champion, who can be seen as part of The Bloodline on the company’s Raw and SmackDown shows every week, has made no secret of his love for the Channel 4 programme and he’s responded to the sad news the Little Britain star is stepping down after three series.
This week Matt, 48, released a lengthy statement insisting it ‘became clear’ to him he couldn’t juggle all of his commitments, and Bake Off didn’t make the cut.
He said: ‘So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else,’ while sharing warm messages to his co-host Noel Fielding, 49, as well as judges Paul Hollywood, 56, and Dame Prue Leith, 82.
The comedian continued: ‘I wish whoever takes over all the very best and I can’t wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won! xxx Matt.’
Now, fans will be wondering who will replace him alongside Noel for the next series, with the likes of Richard Ayoade and Katherine Ryan making our shortlist.
However, WWE star Sami, 38, has now put himself forward, sharing an article about the news and simply tweeting: ‘Where do I apply? @GreatBritishBakeOff’
‘For the love of god, somebody make this happen,’ replied one fan, with plenty of people urging Channel 4 to sign him up.
‘I would love to see this my dawg,’ another follower said, while a third wrote: ‘Must watch TV. Give me this!’
Sami has been very vocal about his passion for Bake Off, and recently exclusively told Metro.co.uk how he’s still gunning for a spot on a celebrity special – although joining Noel as co-host seems a fair trade!
‘One day, one day I’ll get on there. Me and Noel [Fielding] will hang out, crack a few jokes. Paul [Hollywood] can judge my sub-par vegan banana bread or whatever it is. One of these days,’ he said.
Great British Bake Off is returning to Channel 4 in 2023. Watch Sami Zayn weekly on Raw and SmackDown via BT Sport.
