WWE WrestleMania Backlash: Rhea Ripley attacks AJ Styles and joins Judgement Day
The Nightmare – who turned on her tag team partner Liv Morgan last month – is now part of Edge’s Judgement Day group after she helped the Ultimate Opportunist to victory.
Styles and Edge put on a great match on Sunday night with the latter going at it alone after Damian Priest was barred from ringside.
The Archer of Infamy still got involved but Finn Balor foiled his attempted interference, but their brawl caused enough of a distraction to allow a mysterious hooded individual to attack Styles.
The brief run-in gave Edge the opening he needed to lock in a crossface sleeper hold for the win, and the attacker revealed herself as Ripley to a chorus of boos from the crowd.
It adds another dynamic to Judgement Day, and gives some scope for the group to expand into other divisions and stories.
It’s unlikely to get referenced as part of the darker plot, but Priest and Ripley are close, and Damien even lent her his ring gear last year after she lost her luggage before a live event.
Rhea was left devastated when a bag containing her wrestling outfits and memories fell out of the back of her car and seemed to have been taken from the roadside.
Of course, the show must go on and Ripley ended up turning to fellow Raw superstar Priest to borrow his pants and get through her match.
‘Losing all my stuff – legit, I have one pair of pants. One pair of gear pants, that’s all I had,’ she exclusively told Metro.co.uk a few weeks later. ‘So, losing that and losing the title, and having to wear Damian Priest’s pants – and them fitting me better than they fit him!
‘It was hilarious! I remember putting them on and I walked out, and they fit. He’s like, “I hate you!” Everyone that walked past was like, “Woooow! We didn’t realise you had another pair of pants?” “They’re not my pants! [laughs]’
Priest was happy to help out his friend with ‘no hesitation’, and he revealed there’s been a long-standing joke about their similar styles even before the incident.
‘No hesitation,’ he smiled. ‘We’ve always joked that our gear looks similar anyway, so it’s a matter of, “Will it fit?” She had to makes some alterations but she made it work. Had she not said anything, no one would have even known!’
