Sami Zayn has shared a brutal photo of his injuries after WWE Elimination Chamber ended in heartbreak.

The fan favourite narrowly missed out on a huge win in a career making night in Montreal over the weekend, despite the hometown hero coming close to beating Roman Reigns and ending his over-900 day run with the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Fans at the Bell Centre and watching around the world were devastated as the Tribal Chief picked up the win, but Sami’s performance and rise up the ranks will go down in history.

The former Intercontinental Champion has played a huge role in the Bloodline saga being so special, and his effort can’t be denied as he revealed the impact Saturday’s match had on his body.

He shared a photo of himself behind the scenes moments after the bout, revealing cuts and wounds all over him back.

Alongside the shot initially shared by WWE, he captioned the post: ‘Some wounds might never heal.’

Following the emotionally charged match, Sami – who had has family and friends in the front row – admitted he felt ‘detached’ as he spoke in a post-show press conference in the immediate aftermath.

Although he later admitted to feeling better about the situation, he initially said: ‘I want to apologise in advance because I’m feeling very strange. I know some of these answers are going to be, maybe not what you would expect.

‘I feel very strange in that, I feel very strangely detached, which I don’t know if people want to hear. You want to hear, “Wow, I did this. It was awesome. I’m riding high.”

‘I normally am, but I’m feeling very strange, strangely detached, and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is. On a cognitive level, I know what we just did. I think I still have to see it back and see how it played.’

Sami caught himself almost saying something inappropriate before his filter kicked in, comparing the match to a dream where you ‘wake up right before’ the expected conclusion.

He explained: ‘I know what this is, we all know what this is, but some of this stuff is real. You just kind of dream of that happy ending. So close, but no cigar.’

As it stands, Cody Rhodes will face Reigns for the championship at WrestleMania 39, while it looks like Sami could team with real life best friend Kevin Owens to take on The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles.

WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
