WWE superstar Liv Morgan made a surprise return on SmackDown this week.

The fan favourite star has been out of action for six weeks after getting hurt as she and Raquel Rodriguez defending the Women’s Tag Team Titles against Damage CTRL duo Bayley and Dakota Kai, in a bout which also saw the latter suffer an ACL tear.

Liv’s injury meant she and Raquel had to relinquish the gold a week later, with Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler later winning the vacant championships.

On Friday night’s show, Ronda and Shayna defeated NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre to unify the titles, with the gold now being defended across SmackDown, Raw and NXT.

Raquel was sat at ringside for the high stakes bout, and after the bell the unified champs goaded her, wondering why she’d been out there.

She teased coming for the titles, mentioning that ‘we’ wanted them, which led to Ronda and Shayna wondering who else she was referring to.

It didn’t take long for Liv’s music to hit as last year’s Money In The Bank winner came out to a great ovation from the crowd.

It’s not clear exactly when the match will take place, but it’s clear Liv and Raquel have their sights set on the championships they never actually lost, with Shayna and Ronda in their crosshairs.

Liv previously responded to an outpouring of support from fans since her injury, after a group of supporters came together to create a virtual ‘get well’ card with an image featuring them all holding up their hands in a heart shape, and the message: ‘We [love] U Liv. Get well soon. We will always watch U.’

Sharing the post with her followers, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion tweeted: ‘Thank you guys ????’

Earlier in the show, LA Knight continued to build momentum before Money In The Bank at The O2 in London as he defeated Rey Mysterio in singles action before Santos Escobar stopped him from adding insult to injury.

WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
