WWE star Kofi Kingston confirms foot injury with WrestleMania status unclear
WWE superstar Kofi Kingston has confirmed reports he suffered an injury on SmackDown this week.
The New Day fan favourite wasn’t in a match but did come out with teammate Xavier Woods as they joined Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, LA Knight and Karrion Kross in staking claims for an Intercontinental Championship match against GUNTHER at WrestleMania.
It all descended into a big brawl, and Kofi sadly didn’t emerge unscathed on a night where Ronda Rousey also appeared hurt as she came out wearing a sling.
The injury – thought to be his foot or ankle – appeared to come as McIntyre dived over the top rope and landed awkwardly on the former world champion.
It was announced on Friday’s show that next week will see Kofi, Kross, McIntyre, Sheamus and Knight clash with a shot at GUNTHER on the line.
However, it’s doubtful Kofi will be able to compete in that match, while his status for WrestleMania in Hollywood on April 1 and 2 is also uncertain.
Confirming the injury, Kofi shared a video alongside his son as he relaxed by the pool with his foot strapped up while Alright by Kendrick Lamar blared out.
He captioned the video with a thumbs up emoji and added: ‘We gon’ be alright!’
Fans and fellow stars offered support in the replies, including IMPACT Wrestling producer and former WWE wrestler Lance Storm, who commented: ‘You can’t keep a good man down. Get well soon.’
‘Prayers & healing vibes,’ tweeted one fan, while another wrote: ‘Get better soon legend’.
‘Have a speedy recovery dear,’ added a third follower, and yet another said: ‘Get well soon’.
It remains to be seen how long Kofi will be out of action, or what he and Xavier could be doing at WrestleMania if he does recover in time.
The duo’s most recent success came in NXT where they won the tag team titles at Deadline in December before dropping them to Gallus at Vengeance Day last month.
WWE SmackDown airs Friday night at 1am on BT Sport.
