WWE superstar Grayson Waller has revealed he suffered a broken leg in his last match against Carmelo Hayes.

On April 25, the Aussie star came up short against the NXT Champion at Spring Breakin’ and hasn’t wrestled since being drafted to SmackDown the following week and later making his debut as the host of the Grayson Waller Effect with AJ Styles as his special guest.

There has been plenty of speculation and debate about his lack of in-ring action since joining the blue brand, but now the 33-year-old wrestler has revealed the reason for the approach.

In a passionate video on Twitter, he said: ‘In my last match on NXT against Carmelo Hayes, I broke my leg. Clean break of the fibula. But because I’m a straight up gangsta from South West Wales, Sydney, I kept going and I was moments away from becoming NXT Champion.

‘Fast forward two weeks, I hobble on crutches into the WWE Draft and SmackDown, with the steal of the entire draft, chooses Grayson Waller – despite the fact that I couldn’t wrestle, I could barely even walk.

‘The reality is, Grayson Waller on one leg has more value than 99% of wrestlers with two. So, what did I do? Week after week on Fox, I entertained millions with the Grayson Waller Effect, the hottest talk show in all of pro wrestling.’

Waller listed his guests so far, including the likes of Styles, Charlotte Flair, Asuka and the UK’s own Pretty Deadly, while this Friday night he’ll be joined by social media megastar Logan Paul.

Moving the conversation away from his talk show, he instead addressed the online chatter and rumours about his status on SmackDown.

‘I keep seeing what everyone’s saying online. Am I just a talk show host now? If I was, I guarantee I’d be the greatest talk show host in the history of this company,’ he continued.

‘But as good as I am on the Grayson Waller Effect, as good as I am on the microphone, I’m better in the ring. So, the question is when am I back? Well Iave good news, but I have bad news.

‘The bad news is… I don’t owe a thing to you social media flops. See, what I’ve learnt the last eight weeks – all the pain, all the suffering, all the rehab, doing everything I could possibly do make sure when I come back I’m in the best shape of my life – people online couldn’t care less.’

Waller added that the fans didn’t ‘celebrate’ his arrival on SmackDown and continued presence on his own talk show, insisting they ‘couldn’t care less’.

‘They complained because I wasn’t wrestling. So I’m not gonna tell you. But the good news is, you will get an answer very, very soon,’ he teased. ‘It’s just gonna be on my time. Because that is the Grayson Waller Effect.’

The Grayson Waller Effect comes to The O2 in London on SmackDown this week with special guest Logan Paul. Tune in at 8pm on BT Sport 1.
