Dominik Mysterio disrespected his legendary father Rey on WWE SmackDown and laid him out in shocking scenes.
The son of the iconic masked luchador has been targeting his dad for months ever since turning on him at Clash At The Castle in September, attacking him on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and more.
On Friday night, Dom found himself in a match against Santos Escobar, who took issue with the way he’s been treating his dad.
Despite facing a tough test, the second generation Mysterio ended up stealing a win as he took advantage of the brass knuckles as well as a huge Riptide from Rhea Ripley.
After the interference from his Judgment Day partner, Dom hit the Frog Splash to secure a huge win over a talented star, while his father’s mask was placed in the corner as a reminder of the issues at hand.
Once the match was over, Dom ended up taking the mask and making his way back up the ramp, starting to rip it as Escobar looked on shocked.
Rey’s music blared out as the Master of the 619 came out to confront his son, but he clearly still isn’t keen on fighting his boy.
Dominik went to headbutt him, shoving him a couple of times as he urged his father to hit him, but he refused to sink to his level, even as he goaded him with the tarnished mask.
It looked like the villainous duo were going to leave, but as Rey leaned down to pick up the mask, his son laid him out with a vicious right hand.
With that blow, the deeply personal rivalry has taken a big twist and a huge step towards what looks to be a father/son match at WrestleMania 39.
It’s been simmering for a long time, and now things are starting to heat up as the build really kicks on for Dominik versus Rey on the grandest stage.
WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport.
