WWE is celebrating 1,000 days of Roman Reigns as champion on tonight’s edition of SmackDown.

The Tribal Chief marked day 1,000 of his historic run with the gold on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia, and the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion is on another level.

On Friday night, he is set for a special celebration days after The Usos finally snapped and turned on him at Night of Champions, with Jimmy Uso hitting a Superkick which cost him and Solo Sikoa a shot at the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles.

Backstage, Paul Heyman spoke to Sikoa backstage and revealed he was going to speak to Adam Pearce to make sure the Usos couldn’t get involved tonight, with the WWE later confirming they were told they weren’t needed and extra security has been hired.

Before that though, Austin Theory started the show properly in the middle of the ring, acknowledging Roman while hyping up his own 200+ day United States Title reign.

He referenced his WrestleMania win over John Cena, and insisted he too could hit 1,000, 2,000, 3,000 or even 4,000 days as champ if he keeps getting challengers like Sheamus.

The rising star brought out British duo Pretty Deadly, praising them for helping him to victory last week and getting a ‘Yes boy!’ in return before the Brawling Brutes interrupted.

This led right into a blockbuster six-man tag team match to kick off the show, with Austin, Elton Prince and Kit Wilson taking on the team of Sheamus, Butch and Ridge Holland.

It was a belting effort from everyone involved, with all six stars getting the chance to shine before Pretty Deadly stole a win, hitting Spilt Milk and letting Theory get the pin.

The second match of the night saw The OC’s Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows beat Hit Row duo Ashante Thee Adonis and Top Dolla in an entertaining bout, before birthday boy AJ Styles took out the latter with a Phenomenal Forearm.

The show as a whole actually began with Paul Heyman narrating a video looking at the history of Roman’s iconic world title run, which began with him beating ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman at Payback in August 2020.

Elsewhere on the show, there will be some build towards Money In The Bank at The O2 in London with two huge qualifying matches, as Montez Ford takes on LA Knight and Zelina Vega battles Lacey Evans.

WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
