Prince Harry got totally roasted by WWE commentator Wade Barrett during SmackDown this week.
The royal is making headlines at the moment with his case against Mirror Group Newspapers, which is currently playing out in the High Court as he alleges that about 140 articles published between 1996 and 2010 by MGN titles contained information gathered using unlawful methods.
Barrett didn’t mention the court case, but he did reference Harry’s strained relationship with members of the Royal Family, and the title of his recent tell-all memoir Spare.
The book was given the name to refer to the characterisation of he and William as ‘the heir and spare’, and the Preston-born retired wrestler tied everything into WWE’s biggest ongoing storyline.
Currently, The Bloodline – made up of Roman Reigns, his twin cousins The Usos and their younger brother Solo Sikoa – are embroiled in a bitter feud, especially after Jimmy Uso turned on Reigns to take a stand against his tyranical run over his family and WWE as a whole.
It’s left his brother Jey in a tough position trying to decide where his allegiances lie, and things broke down at the end of Friday night’s episode of SmackDown with Jey still yet to make a decision.
Jimmy got involved in the main event and accidentally kicked his twin in the face, inadvertently costing him the United States Championship, and Barrett couldn’t resist a cheeky dig.
‘Jimmy is a spare like Prince Harry to the UK,’ he quipped. ‘He is just surplus to requirements.’
Fans are left reeling by the unexpected remark, with one person laughing: ‘Wade Barrett referencing Prince Harry ????????????’
‘Wade Barrett shooting hard on Prince Harry on commentary ???????????????? #Smackdown,’ tweeted a second viewer, while a third jokingly asked: ‘Damn Wade, what did Harry do to you? #SmackDown’
And yet another wondered: ‘Why’s wade barrett randomly shading prince harry lmfao ????’
