Bray Wyatt made a sensational and haunting WWE return at Extreme Rules with a new mask 15 months after getting fired last summer.

The former world champion was back under a new guise as the Firefly Fun House characters – Huskus the Pig, Mercy the Buzzard, Abby the Witch, Ramblin’ Rabbit and The Fiend – came to life around the arena after weeks of buildup hyping the white rabbit.

After the main event, the lights cut out and a creepy voice started singing He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands as the Philly crowd went absolute wild, knowing what was to come.

However, it’s safe to say no one was prepared for the creepy scenes that unfolded with a molten reaction from those in attendance every step of the way.

With the singing adding a sinister soundtrack, corners of the arena were lit up as full size versions of Wyatt’s puppet friends appeared, along with a burnt Fiend mask on the announce table.

It’s not clear what the connection to the recent cryptic clues is yet, but Bray stepped through a door holding his old lantern from the Wyatt Family days but sported a terrifying new mask, which he took off to reveal his face as the show went off the air.

It marks a remarkable turnaround for Bray and sees him back in the wrestling business after months of speculation.

Back in November 2021, his longtime friend and collaborator Jason Baker exclusively told Metro.co.uk how Wyatt was working on his first feature film towards the end of the year.

He said at the time: ‘He’s a phenomenal collaborator, he’s become a really good friend, and we’re actually – you’re the first person that we’re publicly telling about [this]. We’re starting a film at the end of the month.’

He added: ‘It’s a feature film and it’s something really new and different. I’d say probably the best way to describe it is Ichi the Killer meets Xanadu.’

It’s unclear what the status of that project is, but the whole situation is made all the more fascinating by the fact that Wyatt’s friend Rob Fee – who has worked as a writer for Marvel and Netflix – recently joined WWE as head of longterm creative.

With two creative minds joining forces in Triple H’s new era of the company, fans have every reason to be excited for the future, with plenty of stars keen to work with Wyatt now he’s back in the game.

WWE Raw (Mondays) and SmackDown (Fridays) air weekly at 1am on BT Sport 1.
