Wrexham stars fly to Las Vegas as Hollywood owners make generous offer
Wrexham AFC players excitedly boarded a flight for a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate their epic National League title win. The Red Dragons were told an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas was on the cards if they returned to the Football League, which they achieved with a record 111 points tally.
Back in November 2020, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds teamed with Rob McElhenney – famed for creating and starring in ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ – to purchase Wrexham for £2.25m. The duo have become symbols of Welsh football around the world thanks to the exposure their platforms have bought to the club and area, largely though the popular Disney+ documentary titled ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.
The show was a hit in the United States, where the club will embark on a preseason tour this summer. McElhenney and Reynolds have established a remarkable fandom for Wrexham across the pond, but they also stayed true to their word by organising a four-day trip to Sin City for their star players.
Ahead of the 10-hour flight to Las Vegas, striker Ollie Palmer shared photos from the airport as players prepared for the trip while kitted out in his special Wxm Clothing brand Champions hoodies. Jordan Davies and Aaron Hayden were both able to make the flight after their partners gave birth in the days before.

Fellow squad members Liam McAlinden, Ryan Barnett, Eoghan O’Connell, Sam Dalby and Max Cleworth, were pictured in the departure lounge too. Wrexham’s star striker Paul Mullin, who scored 38 goals in 46 National League contests in 2022/23, is thrilled to be going to Las Vegas to celebrate revealed this week they had been told to leave their bank cards at home in a generous offer from the club’s owners.
Mullin told GQ: “It became a thing where if we won the league, we’d get a holiday. So we’re off to Vegas. Ryan and Rob told us to leave our cards at home, they’re sorting the lot.
“They sent us a full itinerary just now. Part of me doesn’t want to go, I might be dead by the end of it! But I’d never go to Vegas by me own accord, so I’m buzzing for it.”
Ben Foster, who returned to his former club to help them clinch promotion, admitted the players were promised a ‘monster’ party to celebrate the season. Meanwhile, manager Phil Parkinson revealed he is not making the trip as he prepares for League Two.
The all-expenses extravaganza in Las Vegas comes just days after thousands of fans took the streets in the Welsh town for the open-top bus parade. Both McElhenney and Reynolds were in attendance, with the Deadpool star skipping the Met Gala to attend.
With the growing popularity of Wrexham in the United States, players can expect a warm welcome during their trip to Las Vegas as well as on the pre-season tour. Reynolds and McElhenney have arranged four friendlies in July for games against Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United as well as LA Galaxy II and one unconfirmed team.
The Red Dragons’ clash with Erik ten Hag’s side is scheduled to go down in San Diego at the Snapdragon Stadium in July, forming part of United’s preseason tour of the US – their first since 2018 – which will likely feature a match in Las Vegas. The match with Wrexham will go down on 25 July as part of a week-long training camp in San Diego.
