Wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista shows off his Filipino heritage through his tattoos
Ahead of the release of director Rian Johnson’s detective film, ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista shows off his Filipino heritage through his tattoos.
In a video for GQ Magazine to promote his latest film, Bautista broke down his various tattoos, delving into each one’s significance and meaning to him. What caught our attention were his Filipino-inspired tattoos. Born to a Greek mother and a Filipino father, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy actor said “I was always really just taught to be proud of my heritage. [I’m] always very proud of my roots and I display it on my body.”
Giving a quick rundown of these locally inspired tattoos, on his left arm, he showed that he has the waving flags of the Philippines and Greece beside each other. On his left elbow are the three yellow stars and sun of the Philippine flag, and the sun also appears on his chest but this time in black encircling an Eye of Providence.
Bautista recounts that he came to be more in touch with his Filipino heritage after the 2006 World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) that the Philippines hosted.
“I’m only half-Filipino, from the United States, but they embraced me like I was 100% Filipino and I was born and raised there. That experience is never gonna make me feel anything less in my life,” he shared.
