Worst UK airport for delays revealed – where does your local one rank?
BIRMINGHAM airport was the worst for flight delays for a second year running.
Departures last year were 30 minutes late on average — double the time in 2021.
Doncaster Sheffield, which shut in November, and Manchester were joint second at 29 minutes, Civil Aviation Authority data showed.
East Midlands was best at just 13 minutes.
A rush for holidays and lack of staff saw airports struggle most in May and June.
Rory Boland, of Which? Travel, said: “A repeat cannot be allowed.”
Last year, 10.3million people used Birmingham — the seventh busiest.
The airport said it was “running smoothly” this year — the first since 2020 not hit by Covid.
A Birmingham airport spokesman said: “The start of 2022 was devastated by Covid.
“After travel restrictions were lifted, the aviation industry fought hard to recover.
“This year, the first since 2020 not impacted by Covid, our airport is running smoothly with customers set to equal or exceed pre-pandemic numbers.
“Customers using Birmingham airport this summer can expect changes to walking routes as we build our £40 million new security hall, set to be ready for June 2024.”
