World’s best new technology drops

The world’s biggest tech show is about to kick off but there are already heaps of cool new products to check out.

The world’s biggest tech show is about to kick-off in Las Vegas.

CES 2022 runs from January 5-8 and will showcase the hottest new products from around the world.

It’s featuring established brands like Samsung, LG, Sony, Qualcomm and Panasonic, plus a bunch of newcomers.

This year’s conference will include products with 5G connectivity, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, robotics and more.

You can catch all the announcements live as they happen on the CES YouTube channel.

And while we’re still waiting for the big news to drop, there has already been a slew of new tech announced.

LG TVs

LG today announced the new LG 2022 OLED TVs and they’re proof TVs are getting smarter by the day.

The hi-tech TVs employ self-lighting pixels that can be turned on and off individually to “deliver perfect blacks, natural colours and infinite contrast”.

The LG 2022 G2 series introduces a new 83-inch model and the world’s first 97-inch OLED model. That’s one enormous TV.

You can check out more LG announcements and products at the virtual booth here.

CES is already handing out honoree awards for some pretty cool tech and I’ve listed some of the best.

Motion Pillow 3

The Motion Pillow 3 senses the user’s head position and detects the sound of snoring, which triggers the airbags inside the pillow. The airbag inflates to optimise the sleeper’s head position without disturbing sleep. I can hear my wife ordering one already.

Abbott I-STAT TBI Plasma

The Abbott I-STAT TBI Plasma is one of the new incredible health products coming on the market.

It provides the first rapid handheld traumatic brain injury test. Tests results are available within 15 minutes. A negative result can be used to rule out the need for head CT scan, freeing up valuable hospital space.

Predator X32

Acer’s new Predator X32 monitor is looking pretty attractive for gamers.

It displays imagery with high contrast, ensuring that both dark and light details are rendered perfectly — excellent for a game of Doom or Diablo II Resurrected.

TTcare (smarT Total care)

If you’ve got a pet you’ll love this new app.

Just take a picture of your pets’ eyes or any part of their body with a mobile phone and artificial intelligence will inform you whether or not there are any eye or skin disease-related symptoms.

That can help with preventive diagnosis and treatment – a very cool way to use AI tech.

SOUNDFORM Immerse Noise Cancelling Earbuds

The SOUNDFORM Immerse Noise Cancelling Earbuds are high-fidelity earbuds with Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation.

I reviewed the Belkin Soundform Freedom True Wireless Earbuds earlier this year and gave them the tick of approval.

NexusTouch

The NexusTouch by Boréas Technologies is the kind of tech that, once you see it, you wonder why it wasn’t invented already.

It’s a virtual-button design platform that expands touch-based user interfaces on the sides of smartphones and gaming phones.

Immersive trigger effects make gaming phones feel more like gaming consoles — without the clunky mechanical toggles.

AI Studios

Watch out video producers, AI is coming for your job (and everyone else’s too).

The new AI Studios by DeepBrain AI is a video production tool that makes it easy to produce videos without the need to film or employ the real people.

You can eliminate costly studio, lighting, camera, set-staff, and even the video host.

Just type the script and that enables the AI anchor to naturally speak, use body language and gestures just like a real presenter. Freaky stuff.

Solar inspection solution by hydrogen fuel cell drone

This new Doosan drone has a hydrogen fuel cell, meaning it is eco-friendly and can fly for 2+ hours with automatic mission flight.

Plus it looks like a spider.

In a single flight, it is possible to take detailed shots of hundreds of thousands of solar panels.

Saving the planet and looking cool all at the same time.

MP100 Plus Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Portable bluetooth speakers are a dime a dozen these days, but the Edifier MP100 Plus stands out for being quite fashionable.

It has lightweight casing made from durable waterproof fabric and sturdy TPU material that achieves the water-resistant grade of IPX7. So good if you like the rough and tumble.

STARcase

The STARcase is an innovative, app-controlled cellular phone case. It allows you to display customised notifications on a LED display for calls, texts, emails, and third-party apps.

You can choose from hundreds of light shows, animated icons, and customisable scrolling text to view messages and notifications.

I’m a sucker for bright lights and would definitely buy this.

The Kinoo App

The Kinoo App is a new video communication platform that uses augmented reality and virtual activities to bring families closer together.

This is great new way for old and young people to connect during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Anything that can bring families together at this time is a winner in my book.

RadiX AXE6600

The RadiX AXE6600 by MSI Computer Corp is a red-hot Wi-Fi router.

But the best thing about it is that it just looks damn cool.

It’s also made specifically for gamers. No more lag!

Galaxy Z Fold3

It’s not CES without the latest in phone technology.

Flip phones are making a comeback (hello 1980s?) in a big way this year.

The Galaxy Z Fold3 is Samsung’s most advanced and durable foldable yet.

It has IPX8 water resistance, an Under Display Camera, and first-ever S Pen support on a foldable, all on a 7.6” screen.

Sony BRAVIA CAM for TV

The Sony BRAVIA CAM for TV by Sony is a camera device equipped with a recognition engine transforms the TV viewing experience in the living room.

A camera on a TV – that’s a new one for me.

A peron’s location in front of the TV is analysed by skeleton estimation and face detection, which is calculated only in a private and securely protected memory bank.

The processor then optimises picture and sound quality according to the your viewing environment.

TCL 20 Pro 5G

The TCL 20 Pro 5G is TCL’s next-generation smartphone flagship.

The phone has quick speeds, faster streaming, speedy downloads, and enhanced AI features with its Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

I reviewed the TCL 20 R 5G last year and really liked it. It’s the latest tech at a very competitive price.

TCLs keep coming through with the goods.

MyEli, the connected lifesaving jewels

Almost all tech is wearable these days. But what about a jewel that could save your life?

MyEli is an aesthetic and secure connected jewel, which allows a person to alert emergency contacts in case of imminent danger.

Connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth, it is linked to a 100 per cent customisable mobile application that allows several simultaneous actions to be set up in the event of an insecurity.

This is particularly good for women who might feel vulnerable walking alone at night.
