The United Nations has declared the theme ‘Basic Science for Sustainable Development’ as the main theme of World Science Day. The theme has been set to promote the use of basic science to achieve the 2030 objectives.

It was started from the year 2001 by the United Nations approving the resolution related to the celebration of 10 November as World Science Day. The main theme for ‘World Science Day for Peace and Development’ for the year 2022, ‘Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development‘ was declared by the United Nations on 8 July 2022. On 2 December 2021, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the proposal of the main theme ‘Basic Science for Sustainable Development’ for the year 2022 ‘World Science Day for Peace and Development’. For this it was said by the General Assembly that basic scientific applications have an important role to play for progress in medicine, industry, agriculture, water resources, energy planning, environment, communication and culture. It was said by the General Assembly that more and more basic science is needed to achieve ‘the 2030 theme and the (set) 17 Sustainable Development Goals’ for it.
