World Education Forum conclave in Visakhapatnam discusses innovation ecosystem – Times of India

VISAKHAPATNAM: Sustainable development is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations, said Union minister of state for education Subhas Sarkar. He sent his message in a video for the two-day international innovation and creativity conclave 2023 being conducted in Visakhapatnam by the World Forum for Education. “The world is changing at an unprecedented pace with technological advancements. Moving towards Industry 5.0 is revolutionising the way we do businesses. Considering the 2030 agenda of sustainable development goals, we shall adapt to these changes and develop an entrepreneurial ecosystem that is inclusive, sustainable, and leaves no one behind. Prime Minister Narendra Modi says India does not only have the potential to emerge as the knowledge centre in the world, but also as the skill capital. Our youth has skills, values and the necessary passion and honesty to work. This skill capital of India can become the engine of development of the world,’ said Subhas Sarkar.
Indian National Science Academy president Prof Ashutosh Sharma spoke about climate change. “Technology is about efficiency of process, but not about the level of consumption. Diversity is a great ingredient of innovation and creativity because innovation requires many different perspectives,’ said Ashuthosh Sharma.
Best Innovation University-Andhra Pradesh chancellor Dr Rupa Vasudevan, NRDC senior manager Dr BK Sahu, and other eminent speakers from diverse organisations and institutions participated in the day-long event.
BJP foreign affairs in-charge Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale delivered a keynote address, highlighting the innovations carried out by India through two examples such as UPI (Unified Payments Interface) and the Covid-19 Vaccine. He emphasised the importance of scaling local solutions to transform them into global solutions.
Association of Indian Universities secretary general Dr Pankaj Mittal spoke about how the inquisitive nature of students must be incubated and nurtured by teachers in all educational institutions.
The second panel of the day discussed the theme- reimagining education – what do future campuses look like? With Dr J. Girish, Director -Education GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, as the moderator. The panel consisted of esteemed speakers such as Anil Bhaskaran, Dr. Sunita Singh, Prof. (Dr.) Sujata Shahi, Dr PV Sudhakar, Dr Manmohan Singh IAS ( Rtd) , and Vishal Arora. With the advancement of technology and all teaching material being available online, the question of whether physical campuses are required in the future was discussed in depth.
