A Wales fan has sadly passed away while following his country with his friends and family at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Kevin Davies, a 62-year-old from Pembrokeshire, has died while in the Middle East with his son and some pals to witness Wales’ first World Cup campaign since 1958.
According to BBC Wales, Davies’ death on Friday was due to natural causes. He was likely planning to attend the Red Dragons’ Group B fixture against Iran at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium but wasn’t at the ground as Rob Page’s side fell to a late 2-0 defeat.
The report adds that Davies’ family have been offered UK consular assistance following his tragic passing, with the Football Supporters’ Association Cymru providing support as they have been doing with all travelling fans. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has confirmed it was ‘supporting the family of a British man who has died in Qatar’.
On Saturday morning, Fan Embassy Wales tweeted: “Unfortunately, we have lost one of the Red Wall yesterday in Qatar. Our sincere condolences go out to his son here in Doha and his family back in Wales.. May he rest in peace.”

Wales fans have been sending their love to Davies and condolences to his family in response to the social media post.
@LFC_RV said: “Really sad news. Thoughts and condolences to his friends and family. RIP.” @mattmartyr tweeted: “Awful news. Sending my condolences to the family.” And @huwphillips68 responded: “Terrible news. Deepest sympathies to the family.”
In an emotional message, @dyfedsion posted: “Peace to him. A good man who did so much for the people of his area. Condolences to the family. A great man who did so much for his area. A true gentleman. Will be mourned and missed.” And @Manxie112 added: “RIP another angel taken too soon.”

Wales’ 2022 World Cup campaign hasn’t gone to plan, and they are staring an intrepid group-stage exit in the face after the defeat to Iran. Gareth Bale and co. must beat England on Tuesday for any chance of progressing into the knockouts, and even then, they would need Iran and the USA to draw.
They have looked lacklustre in both Group B games so far, with Bale’s second-half penalty salvaging a 1-1 draw against the USA earlier this week. But the Welsh faithful will hope they are saving the best outing for last ahead of the highly-anticipated home nations showdown.
