‘World class’ Dartford school where teachers have ‘expert’ knowledge

Wilmington Academy, situated on Common Lane, was visited by Ofsted on May 4 and 5 and was rated as outstanding in every area: Quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and Sixth-form provision.

Inspectors found that the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy is “at the heart of the curriculum” at this school.

This gives pupils the chance to “take risks and demonstrate their ability to think, reflect and communicate”.

Ofsted reported that pupils are safe and happy here and that bullying is rare.

Pupils told Ofsted inspectors that if bullying ever does occur staff take action immediately.

Behaviour was found to be “exceptional” at Wilmington Academy, inspectors found pupils to be “thoughtful, respectful and polite”.

Pupils at the school know that prejudice and discrimination will not be tolerated and that their differences are accepted and celebrated.

Inspectors found that teachers have “expert subject knowledge” and teach with “clarity and enthusiasm”.

Ofsted reported that assessments are used regularly to monitor pupil’s progress and that pupils are given personalised feedback with “meaningful comments”.

Leaders at Wilmington Academy are “highly ambitious” for pupil’s educations and have effective structures in place to support Sixth form students and their pathways after school.
