‘Wonderful’ Yorkshire Dales market town named one of the best UK holiday spots

A market town that looks and feels like a village located in the Yorkshire Dales is one of the top spots for a staycation, according to HomeToGo. With a population of about 1,000, cobbled streets and stone cottages, the town is a picturesque spot from which to explore the area.

In town, the Folk Museum tells the story of life in Wharfedale.

The museum is open from March to October and displays Iron Age bones and domestic artefacts.

On Tripadvisor, user Jesscat said: “This is a lovely little museum.”

Ian S wrote: “Highlight of my trip so far! Fabulous little museum of local life staffed by knowledgeable volunteers.

DON’T MISS

“If you stop off in Grassington then this is a must visit!”

The largest waterfall on the River Wharfe, Linton Falls is a stroll away from Grassington.

Tripadvisor user Steve said: “We visited two days after heavy rain and the falls were in full flow. We’ve been here a few times also when the river has been low but there’s always something wonderful to admire.”

Linhay said: “Yorkshire Dales at its loveliest, fantastic walking, and not too far from the pretty village of Grassington.”

Grassington, while small, has a range of events visitors will no doubt enjoy.

The music and arts Grassington Festival is held in June, while a 1940s weekend is held in September.

Over three Saturdays in December, the Dickensian Festival takes over town, with locals and visitors getting into the spirit by donning Victorian costumes.

On Silver Travel Advisor, one reviewer wrote: “This is a brilliant event with lots to offer for all. It does get crowded but I think this adds to the festive atmosphere.
