Woman’s ‘free heat’ hack to make your room feel like 20C
The Duchess of Thrift is a content creator who is dedicated to helping Britons fight the pinch amid the cost of living crisis. She shares hacks on how to save money and live well for less. A recent tip could help anyone is a desperate spot needing some immediate heat – depending on the weather.
She took to her TikTok account, @duchessofthrift, where the mum boasts 34K followers, and said: “I found some free heat, look guys! It’s 7C in here, but if I stand in front of the window there it’s about 20C.
“I’m drying some washing in front of it anyway because the sun is kind of amplified through the window and it makes it feel even warmer.”
She advised taking full advantage of warm spots in the sun where you can get them. Spots where the sun comes through the window will strengthen the heat of the sun and feel much warmer.
The content creator said: “But I’m going to drag myself up a chair and I’m going to sit in this little sunny spot and take full advantage of the free heat in my house because it actually likes it’s about 20C sat here and I can feel the sun immediately warming my arms.

“So, if you’ve got a sunny spot in the house and you’re freezing cold, make sure that you turn your furniture around so while it’s like this, and it’s baltic, you can take full advantage of all the sunny spots in your home.”
A number of her commenters had found success in taking advantage of warm spots in the home. One wrote: “I did exactly the same in my kitchen. What has life become?”
Another wrote: “I put my not quite dry washing in my window and it felt warm. I was so excited you’d think I’d won the lottery!!”
Another fan commented: “Yes, me too. The sun is glorious. I have a sunny kitchen, washing is out too. Sun trap.”
“Good advice, it does make a difference when the sun is out!” one wrote, while another added: “The back of our house is south facing and the sun is beaming through our kitchen! It’s lush and warm.”

The Duchess of Thrift is not the only clever content creator posting life hacks to make homes warmer on their social media. One such heating hack involves using a terracotta plant pot and tea lights.
The hack was tested by TikTok account @rightguysreview, which has 1.2M followers. It involves making a mini heater, which the content creator claims heated his room within minutes.
The content creator checked the temperature of the room when he lit the candle, and it was 15 degrees. He then looked at the thermostat again after having left the heater to work for two to three minutes.
