Woman shares genius hack to keep house cool in heatwave

A woman has inspired awe after revealing an ingenious window hack to beat hot summer days and keep your house cool at all times during a heatwave. Temperatures in the UK are expected to soar to 30C in the coming weeks, marking the first hot spell in an otherwise mild and wet July.

Under scorching weather conditions, it can be handy to know how to keep your home cool, particularly if you do not have air conditioning.

According to life hack guru Rosaline Webb, it is important to resist the urge to fling open all the windows in your home at the first sign of heat.

The 28-year-old silversmith revealed that contrary to popular belief, opening all the windows in your home will allow hot air to spew in.

Keeping your home cool throughout a heatwave boils down to opening certain windows while leaving others closed, she explained, insisting that her method keeps her and her parents cool every time temperatures soar in the UK.

The life hack guru explained on TikTok: “First shut all the windows on the south side of the house, of the side of the house that receives the most sunlight.

“Next, draw curtains to stop the sunlight from flooding in. Lastly, open all the windows on the north side of the house, or the side of the house in the shade, to let all the cold air in.

“It does truly work, regardless of what people say,” added Rosaline. “I should also point out that the side of my house that faces north receives no direct sunlight whatsoever, because of the surrounding houses so on that side, the house is always cooler.”

Viewers raced to the comments to thank Rosaline for her helpful hack, while others offered their best-kept secrets for keeping a house cool.

“Best method in hot countries. Open all windows from late evening to early morning to let air cool the house,” wrote one commentator. “During the day close all windows and curtains.”

Another penned: “If you have sash windows – open both top and bottom, hot air is light it will exit the room, cooler air from the bottom will be drawn in.”
