With the weather changing, hanging the clothes on the line to dry is becoming a thing of the past.

It is colder and wetter and we are being forced to use the dryer. Sadly, with electricity bills rising at an alarming rate, we would rather not do that.

Thankfully, there are ways to dry your clothes in the drier without going overboard in energy usage.

One such way was shared by a woman who says her laundry hack will have you cutting down your tumble dryer use by 30%.

Aussie based TikToker @refinedliving decided to share the tip her page and viewers were buzzing with this newfound information.

‘Wet clothes and need them to dry faster?’ she asked in the clip.

‘Simply add a dry towel for the first 15 minutes!’

She then filmed herself throwing her laundry into her tumble dryer before adding in a towel on top and setting the machine timer to 15 minutes.

When the time was up, she opened up the dryer door, removed the towel and stated: ‘This speeds it up over 30%.’

So, why and how does this work?

Well, a towel is meant to absorb moisture so throwing your freshly washed clothes will soak up any excess water. This will reduce the overall drying time, meaning you will save money on energy bills.

Viewers were thankful to the TikToker for sharing this nugget of knowledge and were quick to praise her.

‘Wow that’s smart where did you find this? I never would have thought about that,’ said one viewer.

‘This is facts, I discovered this by accident,’ added a fellow fan of the hack.

While a third mused: ‘It works. I use this life hack on heavy items like terry robes and quilts.’
