What’s the most romantic gift you’ve received? We’d wager it wasn’t dehydrated ejaculate.

But if you’re shopping from clay artist Amanda Booth, it might look better than it sounds.

The Canadian artist creates jewellery out of natural secretions, including semen, breastmilk, blood, and other sentimental items such as cremated remains, pet fur, and locks of hair.

Recently Amanda went viral, as she took one of her viewer comments seriously and decided to make a pearl necklace out of ‘man juices’.

What started as a challenge took off, and soon the orders were rolling in.

It turns out that customers can’t get enough of that spunky stuff: many order it as a present for their loved ones, for reasons such as a vasectomy, or just as a joke.

The process involves people sending semen in containers that won’t spill, for it to be dehydrated, powdered, and placed into clay beads or trinkets.

The bespoke necklaces are sold for $110 CAD (around £72), with different chain metals and styles available.

You might be wondering if it’s a smelly process, since semen – like other bodily fluids – has a certain scent. Well, it can be pretty pungent for Amanda and her team.

She recalls one experience where they’d left a batch out to work with in the morning – and it was not kind to the olfactory senses, with the smell lingering throughout the day.

Amanda told Vice: ‘We process them at the end of the day, otherwise we’re sitting in the smell all day and it’s just… We did it in the morning one day and it was just like, “No, I’m never doing that again”.’

Her first sperm-based piece came after she shared her unique creations on Facebook. After someone made the suggestion to create it out of seminal fluid, Amanda and her team decided to give it a go.

She tried it out on her husband’s semen and found that the perfect load is about a teaspoon, but Amanda requests customers send more, as it’s better to work with.

‘It came out fantastic,’ she said.

That’s one way of describing it.
