Woman discovers bizarre grey ‘worms’ growing out of her bathroom tiles
A homeowner who uncovered an unpleasant surprise after picking up her bathroom mat has left other internet users baffled after sharing a picture of the incident online.
The mother was puzzled when she found worm-shaped strands seemingly growing from her bathroom tiles after pulling up the shower rug.
On closer inspection, she was relieved to find that her heated floor tiles had melted the rubber, which adhered to the floor, and pulled out strands of fabric with it.
The confused mother turned to a group on Facebook to seek help from others, asking: “How do you deal with this? Would love some advice on what would be best to use to get it off.”

To which another disgusted user responded: “I thought that was f***ing worms – had a heart attack for a minute there.
Another asked: “Did anyone else freak out thinking it was worms?”
Offering some advice, one person said: “I had a bath mat do that once. My tiles were old though so I used a scraper and I think eucalyptus oil.”
Another advised using GOO remover instead, saying: “Oh no, do yourself a favour and go to Bunnings and buy GOO remover.”
How to clean your shower mat?
Bathrooms are a breeding ground for bacteria growth due to their humid environment, so keeping the space clean and dry is paramount for avoid unpleasant unsuprises.
Shower mats, especially, need special attention as they rarely get a chance to dry out between uses, allowing germs to grow between fibres.
The prevent any unpleasant shocks, make sure all cotton and other synthetic fabrics is washed thoroughly under water hotter than 40 degrees.
