Woman branded thief by neighbour after kindly taking in his parcel
A woman claims she was branded a thief by her neighbour after kindly taking in his parcel when he was out.
The man in his 40s also allegedly shamed the woman on Facebook, warning others in their village about her perceived behaviour.
It left the woman so distraught that she shared what had happened on parenting forum Mumsnet.
“Last night at around 8:30pm a delivery driver asked me to take a parcel for a neighbour a few doors down and said he had knocked on my door as my gate was open,” the woman wrote.
“There was banging on my front door at 6:50am. I ran downstairs worried something was wrong and hoping it wouldn’t wake the whole house up.
“It was my male neighbour who is in his 40s. He didn’t bother to say hello and only said, ‘where is my parcel’. I explained it came last night. As I was pushing it down the hallway towards the door he said, ‘no need to be so dramatic there’s no need to pretend it’s too heavy that’s why you didn’t bother to bring it over last night, you just could not be bothered’.
“I was shocked and just said how he wasn’t in and that’s why the delivery driver gave me the parcel. He then said he was in but was having his dinner, it was raining so didn’t answer the door, and I should have had some respect to do the polite thing and take the parcel to him.
“I started laughing as I thought he was joking. He then called me ‘a waste of space’.”
Writing on Facebook, the man allegedly warned fellow villagers that “everyone should be careful” around the woman as she will “take their deliveries to keep for [herself]”.
But his neighbour stated: “This is not true and unluckily for him – I have this all recorded on the ring doorbell. You can hear us both word for word and see how angry he is in the video.”
Since sharing her post online, the woman’s thread has raked in more than 300 comments – where people advised her on how to proceed.
Taking to the comment section, one person suggested: “I’d post it on FB. So rude to call you a thief when you did him a favour. And obviously, never take his parcels in again.”
Meanwhile, someone else said: “Absolutely offer to post the doorbell footage.”
