Woman begs for help over armrest battle with manspreading passengers on flight
A PASSENGER has slammed two men sat either side of her on a plane after both of them took up space that she felt she was entitled to.
The middle seat is widely regarded as the worst place to sit on a plane, with no aisle to stretch into, or window to look out of.
One person who found themselves stuck in such a predicament was Tiktoker Tricia (@triciasfu), whose armrests were both monopolised by the two people she was sat next to.
In a video she shared online, the two men were seen taking up all the arm space, forcing her to squeeze herself in between the pair.
She captioned the video: “If you’re in the middle seat of a plane shouldn’t you get at least one arm rest by default?
“Someone send help.”
The footage has been seen more than 44,000 times, with plenty of people agreeing that the two men were in the wrong.
One said: “I was taught that if you’re in the middle you get both arm rests since the window seat has the window, and the other has more space.”
Another said: “You get BOTH! I’m pretty sure it’s the law. Window can lean towards a view and aisle can go pee when they want.”
A third added: “No, you should get both by default cause you’re the one suffering in the middle.”
Passengers jostling for space is nothing new and some cabin crew members have joined in the disputes to try to provide some guidance for those flying.
Speaking to Insider, one revealed who gets the armrests in the middle of the row of seats.
She said: “If I could give an airline-etiquette PSA, I’d say I wish more passengers knew middle seat armrests are for the middle seat passenger — both of them.”
Other flight attendants and have backed her up as well, saying the middle passenger, in this case, Tricia, should get both middle armrests.
Cabin crew member Boris Millan explained the Confessions on the Fly podcast: “They did a lot of research in the UK for some reason about this – when you sit in the middle seat, you get to have…”
At which point co-host LJ interjected: “You get both armrests!”
Boris agreed, adding: “It’s common sense, guys. It’s common sense.”
Meanwhile, this flight attendant revealed the magic phrase that will stop people in front of you reclining their seats.
And a passenger explained how she always wins seat reclining battles during flights.
