Woman ‘abducted’ after last being seen ‘screaming’ in a van in South London

A man in his mid-30s has been arrested on suspicion of abducting a woman in Lewisham on Wednesday (April 27). Police were called to One Tree Hill nature reserve in Honor Oak at 2pm after a concerned member of the public called the police about the safety of a woman who had been in a van that had sped off from the scene.

Officers searched the surrounding areas and spoke with members of the public before they managed to locate a man in Downham Way, Lewisham at 3.55pm and arrested him on suspicion of abduction.

He was also arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon, possessions of class A and B drugs, possession of an imitation firearm and possession of offensive weapons. The man remains in police custody, no female victim has been located. A Met Police spokesperson said enquiries continue to ensure the victim is safe.

A spokesperson from the Met said: “A man has been arrested after police were called to concerns for the welfare of a woman.”

They added: “Police are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the matter. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or contact via Twitter @MetCC. Please quote CAD3747/27APR
