Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 Studio CD Projekt CEO Addresses Sony Acquisition Rumours

There have been rumours circulating on the internet about Sony possibly acquiring CD Projekt. Those rumours have been put to bed by CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński. The CEO reiterated that the studio is not for sale and added that all the reports about it are “pure rumour”.

CD Projekt and Sony Acquisition Rumours

These rumours originated when a reliable Destiny 2 content leaker made this claim on an unknown Discord server. CEO Adam Kiciński clarified the situation in an earnings call following the publication of CD Projekt’s Q1 2023 earnings. The CEO was asked by an attendee about the reports emerging about a possible acquisition by Sony. Kiciński replied, “Nothing has changed in our end. So, I can repeat what we have been saying throughout the years – CD Projekt is not for sale.”

He added that the studio wants to “remain independent” and believes that CD Projekt has an “excellent strategy”. The CEO also admitted that it is not easy to execute their strategy but added that the company is excited “to follow our own path. So it’s a pure rumour.”

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC at Summer Game Fest

The CEO also revealed during the earnings call that Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC will be present at the Summer Game Fest. The DLC will also be playable at Summer Game Fest‘s Play Days event.

Apart from Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has also been focused on The Witcher. The developers announced Project Sirius in October which is set to take The Witcher franchise forward.
