Winnie’s Hole has already traumatized me and I haven’t played it
Pooh hole
Here’s something you probably could have lived without seeing. Twice Different is bringing us Winnie’s Hole, a game about mutating Winnie-the-Pooh with a horrific disease, to PC.
Yeah, that’s what I said. In Winnie’s Hole, you play as a virus within the silly bear, and your goal is to burrow through his body and capture cells to mutate. You need to “Refine his primitive form, adapt for survival, and do not let his friends contain you.” It’s grotesque.
Ugh. My goodness. Winnie’s Hole is the result of Winnie-the-Pooh slipping into the public domain. Predictably, this has led to a lot of people twisting the character in dark ways, such as the slasher flick Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. It’s like Alice in Wonderland, it’s almost trite at this point.
At the same time, it’s effective, which might be why it’s so common. Twice Different could have created their own characters, but by applying the concept to something more beloved and well-known, you get something more disturbing.
There’s no way I’m playing Winnie’s Hole. It does some weird stuff to my empathy glands that just makes me uncomfortable. However, I do appreciate the unique concept, and I know multiple people in the Destructoid community who will be way into this. I’d bet five Canadian loonies that one of them will show up in the comments.
Winnie’s Hole is coming to PC via Steam. No release window has been announced.
