Wimbledon LIVE: Rafa Nadal and Nick Kyrgios’ angry outbursts as stars on collision course
Rafael Nadal and Nick Kyrgios could meet in the Wimbledon semi-finals later this week, depending on their fortunes in Wednesday’s quarter-final clashes.
Nadal faces Taylor Fritz on Centre Court, but first, Kyrgios looks to continue his memorable run at SW19 against Cristian Garin on Court 1.
Both have showcased angry outbursts on their way to the last eight, which bodes well for those hoping for an entertaining potential semi-final showdown.
Kyrgios is no stranger to on-court tantrums and it’s been no different at Wimbledon. He has been fined after two of his four matches so far this year.
He showcased several outbursts during his first-round match against Paul Jubb, But his latest fine came in the third round after he demanded Stefanos Tsitsipas was ‘defaulted’ for hitting a ball into the crowd and asked for a ‘new referee’.
Nadal’s own tempers flared in his third-round clash with Lorenzo Sonego. During the third set, he called the Italian to the net to lecture him about being too loud during points.
He then continued his rant after the pair shook hands after the match, grabbing Sonego so he couldn’t return to his chair.
It’s fair to say that if Nadal and Kyrgios meet in the semi-finals, fireworks are to be expected…
