Will Mellor shares reason he’d ‘never’ do another reality show after Strictly
The Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps actor wowed judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke with his first spin on the ballroom floor where he soared to the top of the leader-board with partner Nancy Xu.
But now Will has admitted he won’t be doing another reality show gig.
‘This is it for me. If you’re going to do one do the biggest one and I’m glad I’ve learnt a skill every week,’ he said.
The 46-year-old continued to The Sun: ‘I couldn’t sit on a show just waiting to be voted out, I’d rather at least learn a skill and put my hand to something and really get my teeth into it.
‘I’m enjoying every minute of it and I don’t want to just be in a popularity competition. This will be it for me, I think.’
Ahead of joining the series, Will admitted that he’d previously turned down Strictly, fearing it would ‘affect his career in a negative way’.
The actor didn’t want to take part in certain shows in the past which may have taken him out of his comfort zone, but found that his father’s death changed his outlook on things.
He explained: ‘I’ve been asked to do things over the years and I’ve never wanted to do them, I was always a bit wary of doing things that might affect my career in a negative way.
‘My mindset changed a couple of years ago after I lost my dad. Once I had gone through the grief I just realised you have to grab life and start saying “yes” to things.’
It was this outlook that made him finally agree to take part in the dance show, adding: ‘When I got the phone call about Strictly something inside me said “just say yes, do it”. Because I’d rather look back and say “I did that” rather than “why didn’t I do that?”
‘I want to do something that’s a challenge. It’s scary and it’s out of my comfort zone, but those are the things that you remember, and that’s why I decided to do it.’
Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.50pm on BBC One.
