will.i.am and Mercedes-AMG launch SUPERCAR – but it’s dividing opinion

WHEN celebrities and car manufacturers get together, the result is usually pretty spectacular.

will.i.am announced almost a week ago he had teamed up with the sporty bit of Mercedes, AMG, and the car they’ve made is dividing opinion.

Initially the music star only released a teaser image of the new car, but now the official images are out people are taking to the comments to give their opinions.

It’s being launched at the F1 Grand Prix in Miami taking place this coming weekend.

will.i.am has launched collaboration cars in the past, and they have always had a love-it-or-hate-it design.

He usually teams up with the well known car customisation garage in America West Coast Customs to bring his visions to life and the same is true with this Mercedes.

His latest creation is called Will.i.AMG but nicknamed The Flip and is based on the Mercedes AMG GT, a four-door supercar with a V8 engine that produces more than 600bhp and a 0-60mph time of less than four seconds.

However, The Flip clearly only has two doors and the hinges for them have been placed at the back so they open like a London Taxi’s.

The front end has been borrowed from Mercedes’ huge G-Class SUV, a favourite among celebs across the globe for its plush interior and road presence.

You’ll also notice the badge has gone and has been replaced with a bear with a smaller Mercedes emblem within it.

Why? Because will.i.am has a clothing collection called BEAR WITNESS he’s pushing, obviously.

will.i.am said: “I grew up in a ghetto. I grew up with hip hop. I watched legendary hip hop artist rap about Mercedes, so it was always a dream to own a Mercedes.

“For a lot of inner-city kids, owning a Mercedes is a symbol of progress and advancing out of struggle.

“Now I’ve reached my goal and pushed even higher by re-imagining and creating my own vision of an AMG model.

“But I didn’t touch the engine, because AMG really does make the best engines.
