How can a language that dominates scientific terminology, laid the foundation for most European languages, and provided some of history’s greatest epics ever be considered truly dead? There is a myriad of Latin phrases used in most people’s daily vocabulary, such as carpe diem ( seize the day ) or, even more so, simply, et cetera!
The language is not only an incredible stepping stone in the building of analytical skills surrounding modern language, but it provides a world view and outlook applicable to any subject imaginable. Latin is often mistaken to be terribly hard, and often boring, but it’s surprisingly accessible, and it helps to gain the ability to see things in many alternate perspectives.
Latin is incredibly powerful, if one wishes to study a language in the future, and it has strong links to all sorts of unexpected places. It is the sort of language that has the ability to break down barriers, and it’s important people begin to see it for it’s full potential, rather than pretentious, elitist and impossible to approach.
