During Saturday night’s final of The Masked Singer UK Mushroom was finally unmasked in second place after what presenter Joel Dommett described as ‘incredibly close’ votes.
Tonight saw Robobunny, Panda and Mushroom compete for the title of season 3 winner in the 2022 series.
After Robobunny narrowly missed out on the final vote, they were unmasked to reveal Westlife star Mark Feehily.
After vying for the winner’s spot against Panda, Mushroom came in close second, as they were unmasked as none other than Charlotte Church, who had been a name in contention for weeks.
Before Mushroom’s unmasking, everyone’s favourite funghi opted to perform Demi Lovato’s Stone Cold once more, wowing the judges as always.
Judge Mo Gilligan had been predicting Mushroom was Charlotte for several weeks, a guess Jonathan Ross and Rita Ora opted to go for too in the final episode, after the singer went back to her classical roots with Léo Delibes’ Flower Duet.
Guest judge Joss Stone, who is reigning champion after her success as sausage in series two, stuck with her guess of Birdie, while Davina McCall also stayed with her previous prediction of Sheridan Smith.
As the judges discussed Charlotte’s amazing aptitude for accents, after she sang one song in an Irish accent, they also praised her Lancashire tones for Mushroom’s speaking voice.
Charlotte joked: ‘I watched Corrie growing up as a kid, didn’t I?’
The 35-year-old also thanked the judges for all their kind comments throughout the series, saying she had been touched by them.
During the final show, all three remaining celebrities duetted with former stars of The Masked Singer.
Robobunny went first with a beautiful rendition of I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) with the winner of series one Queen Bee, aka Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts
Mushroom went last and tackled Rihanna’s We Found Love with Robin, as JLS star Aston Merrygold made a triumphant return to the show.
With Mushroom named runner-up, this series of The Masked Singer saw a swathe of stars unmasked, from Destiny’s Child icon Michelle Williams, tennis legend Pat Cash, footballer Michael Owen and Keane lead singer Tom Chaplin.
