Who is Janice Dickinson and what is she famous for?
Starting all the way back in 2002, the ITV reality series has now aired 22 seasons, with the latest providing a bit of a twist.
This time around the famous faces are in South Africa instead of Australia, and actually pre-recorded the series last year.
The line-up in 2023 includes Carol Vorderman, Paul Burrell, Jordan Bango, Shaun Ryder, Helen Flanagan, Fatima Whitbread, Phil Tuffnel, Amir Khan, and Janice Dickinson.
However, despite everyone knowing what to expect after having been through it before, it seems like it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
But instead of the wildlife or crazy challenges causing stress, it appears that some of the cast may have clashed during their time in the jungle, as suggested by Carol, who called former supermodel Janice ‘bonkers’.
Although she made it all the way to the finale during her first stint on the show, Janice was reportedly forced to bow out early this time around due to an injury.
So before you settle in for a night on the couch to start watching the season unfold, here’s a refresher on the American star.
Who is Janice Dickinson?
Janice Doreen Dickinson was born in Brooklyn in 1955, but was raised in Hollywood, Florida.
A model television personality, and businesswoman, she has previously referred to herself as ‘the first supermodel’.
When did she begin modelling?
It was in the early 1970s that Janice, now 68, moved to New York City to pursue work as a model after winning a national competition called Miss High Fashion Model.
Turned down several times by modelling agents for not having the blue-eyes, blond-hair look that dominated the industry at the time, she was once told by Eileen Ford that she would ‘never work’ because she was ‘much too ethic’.
She was later discovered by fashion photographer Jacques Silberstein, while Wilhelmina Cooper became her first agent.
She went on to move to Paris where her ‘exotic looks’ saw her in high demand.
In 1978 she went back to New York and was making up to $2,000 per day, which was nearly four times the standard rate at the time.
She appeared within and on covers of magazines including Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Photo, Vogue, Marie Claire, and Playboy and worked with designers like Gianni Versace, Halston, Oscar de la Renta and Calvin Klein.
The model has also appeared on the cover of Vogue 37 times.
Has she been on TV before?
From 2003 until 2006 Janice was a judge on four seasons of America’s Next Top Model, appearing alongside Tyra Banks.
She became known for her wit and brutally honest critiques, but was eventually fired and replaced by Twiggy.
‘I was just telling the truth and I was saving these girls from going out there and being told that they’re too short, too fat, their skin’s not good enough,’ she later said.
‘I was to America’s Next Top Model what Simon Cowell is to American Idol.’
However, she did make guest appearances over subsequent seasons.
In the years since she’s also been on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew and Celebrity Big Brother in 2015, where she placed seventh.
In 2006, she also starred in her own reality show, The Janice Dickinson Modelling Agency, which ran for four seasons.
When was she in I’m A Celebrity?
In 2007 Janice signed up for I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and set the record for most Bushtucker trials, competing ten times in a row.
She was eventually named runner-up, with actor Christopher Biggins taking out the title.
In 2009 she also appeared in the second season of the American version.
I’m A Celebrity… South Africa starts Monday at 9pm on ITV1.
