Which UK supermarket has the cheapest turkeys?

The cost of living crisis is showing no signs of easing up, even as we enter the Christmas period.

While many households might be worrying about whether they can still enjoy the festivities this year, there are small steps you can take to manage costs. From freezing some foods early (a great option if you spot some bargains now) to knowing how to properly keep your turkey and trimmings, it wont feel like one huge expense.

To help plan ahead, Metro.co.uk have searched through the supermarkets to see the cheapest options for turkeys so far.

Let’s take a look at the price per kilogram of different turkeys from across the UK’s supermarkets…

Who has the cheapest turkey this Christmas?

Lidl currently offer the cheapest turkey per kilogram.

Their Braemoor Large British Self-Basting Turkey with Giblets comes in from £2.78 per kg.

Please note: all prices were correct at the time of publishing, and only products in stock at the time were included.

Tesco Christmas turkeys from cheapest to most expensive

At £4.62 per kg, Tesco’s £18 frozen medium basted whole turkey is the cheapest on offer from the supermarket.

They also have:

  • Frozen small basted whole turkey (serves 4-7) at £5.39 per kg, £14 total
  • Cranberry Foods British Bronze Free Range Turkeyat £5.42 per kg, £26 total

The cheapest turkey crown from Tesco comes in at £7.76 per kg, £22.50 total.

Asda Christmas turkeys

Asda’s cheapest turkey is ASDA small British turkey (Typically 3.25kg, serves 4-7) which comes in at £5 per kg.

The vegan turkey crown with Umami basting stock costs a total of £5, or £11.99 per kg. This small (around 417g) option serves four.

The most expensive option is the ASDA Extra Special Turkey Joint with Pork, Orange, Cranberry & Fig Stuffing, which totals £30 for an average of £21.43 per kg.

Aldi Christmas turkeys

Currently, the Ashfields British Medium Fresh Turkey (typically 4.495kg) is the cheapest turkey available at Aldi, at £4.95 per kg.

The Specially Selected British Free Range Bronze Roly Poly Stuffed Turkey Crown is the most expensive option, coming in at £17.95 per kg.

Aldi don’t have a direct vegan alternative to turkey but they are offering a Specially Selected Vegan Festive Wreath which comes in at £0.83p per 100g.

Lidl Christmas turkeys

As pointed out above, Lidl have the cheapest turkey per kilogram at the time of publishing.

They also have some more cheap options. From £2.96 per kg, the Braemoor Medium British Self-Basting Turkey with Giblets can serve between seven and 11 guests.

Even their Braemoor British Large Turkey Crown prices in at a competitive price, starting from £6.07 per kg.

Morrisons Christmas turkeys

Morrisons have a few options all clocking in at the relatively low price of £4.99 per kg.

These include:

Sainsbury’s turkeys

Sainsbury’s Extra Extra Large Whole Basted British Turkey 8.9kg-10.6kg comes in at a budget-friendly £3.28 per kg.

For a Small British Turkey Crown, you’re looking at around £9.41 per kg.

Waitrose Christmas turkeys

Waitrose, perhaps unsurprisingly, is not one of the cheaper places to buy your turkey.

The cheapest per kilogram price currently is £12.50 for a Small Turkey Breast Crown with Prime Wing.

M&S Christmas turkeys

Marks & Spencer are similarly not the cheapest option for a turkey, but if you wanted to splash out, their cheapest option currently in stock is the British Oakham™ Slow-cooked Turkey Joint with Stuffing & Bacon which comes in at £2.50 per 100g.
