Where to eat, drink and party in London this week, from sober raves to ice fests
As the nights close in and the temperature drops, it seems, ironically, that we will be spending less time in our homes, not more.
Well, why stay in when there’s a whole winter festival to explore, an ice-themed terrace to cosy up on, daytime sober raves, two-for-one cinema deals with free drinks (well, you did the sober rave, you deserve a drink), fabulous feasts and free DJ parties to pitch up at?
No reason at all that we can think of. Add to that more ice curling — yep, that’s right, more! — and we’re off to a flying start. As long as we don’t fall over…
Your kind of tinsel town
If you need a boost in your Christmas spirit, Seven Dials, the area between Covent Garden and Soho, has come up with their first ever Winter Festival, including a pop-up panto, wreath-making workshop, spoken word performances and live podcasts, as well as roasted chestnuts and said mulled wines.
Add their famous street decorations and the collaboration of some of the loveliest indie shops in the West End and we think we might be feeling just a teensy bit tinsel-y… maybe just one more mulled wine to make sure! It’s ticketed, though, so don’t have so many you forget to register.
November 19-21, Seven Dials, WC2

They’re calling it the Galactic Vacation Rave Experience & Wellness Party (catchy!) and it starts at 10am — so around about the time you’d usually be coming home from a rave.
Enjoy six hours of full-tilt rave action with all the right music, healthy food, nutritious drinks, wellness experiences — even cacao, it says here!
Special performances are thrown in, as well as immersive theatrics, creative education, stuff for kids and lots of surprises… if the existence of the event itself isn’t enough of a surprise. Sounds like a great day out!

Come and Rink it all in
Well, who would’ve thunk it? Curling is taking off. We reported last week — yes, we report, we are reporters — on Queens’ foray into the sport, which experiences a moment every four years when we do quite well at spinning stones over ice at the Winter Olympics.
And now a new curling experience is opening in King’s Cross, where we spend a good deal of our drinking money.
It’s called Club Curling and it has popped up in Coal Drops Yard, where you can sign up for a 45-minute sesh complete with cocktails from the Club Curling Cocktail Bar.
It’s the Instagram event of the week… now make ours a Margarita and get the hell out of our ice/way!
Tomorrow until December 30, Stable Street, N1
Orange you glad you’re a Londoner?
Well, it’s back, thanks to Jameson Orange Wednesdays, where you can get two-for-one tickets to the pictures and a free Jameson Orange to go with them for the whole month of November — on Wednesdays only, obvs!
It’s all happening at east London’s coolest picturehouse, the Rio, and in case you were wondering, Jameson Orange is what they’re calling ‘the latest whiskey expression’ — and you can’t argue with that! Anyone for Dune tonight at 8.30pm? The ticket and drinks are, ahem… on us!
Use the code JAMESONORANGE online or at the venue

Walk into a winter wonderland
Like Yauatcha City, the Broadgate outpost of the brilliant Soho party restaurant, which is launching Yauatcha Ice City, a brand new, winter-themed terrace in collaboration with Moët & Chandon, of delicious champagne fame.
They say to expect an icy wonderland — and you know how those people do interiors, so the exteriors are set to wow — and to dress in ‘winter chic with a touch of glitter’, so do try not to get your Singapore vermicelli noodles and shui mai dumplings down it! We think we can pull that off…
From tonight, Broadgate Circle, EC2
C’mon join the Joyride
Fancy joining some of our greatest chefs for a slap-up feast? You betcha! And we are talking names here, Michelin-starred names in some cases — Tom Sellers, Andrew Wong, Jason Howard, Chantelle Nicholson — who, between them, are transforming The Old Selfridges Hotel into party central for anyone who likes their grub.
And yes, of course, there will be top-notch cocktails from award-winning barkeep Rich Woods to wash it all down.
You can even go on what they’re calling the Joyride, a 45-minute immersive experience with headphones leading you through the taste sensations on offer, or just relax by the Magic Garden Stage and take in the entertainments, or — even better — book a Wonky Dreams Bed so you can enjoy the whole thing horizontal. Cancel Christmas, we’re doing this instead!
From today until December 18, 1 Orchard Street, W1
Camden just got even cooler
It’s called Camden Market Hawley Wharf, where you’ll find shops and restaurants right on the banks of the Regent’s Canal, and to get the party started they’ve roped in DJs Jazzie B, Judge Jules, Lady Leshurr, Fat Tony and tons more to rock the house/shock the house of an afternoon.
The initiative is called Camden Crossfade, which is clever, see, cos that’s a DJing term (oh yes, we know our stuff!), and it takes place from 1pm to 7pm, so you can come straight after work.
Wednesdays-Sundays until December 31, Chalk Farm Road, NW1
Classy curry night with a twist
Don’t you just love it when two of your favourite things come together? In our case, we’re thinking Indian food — really good Indian food! — and cocktails — great cocktails!
And that is what’s happening pretty much every night of the week down at Heritage Dulwich, where the cuisine is steeped in Indian tradition but with a very funky London twist — well, Chef Sharma has been trained up in Michelin-starred Indian kitchens.
Go for one of the tasting menus because, let’s face it, with Indian you want to taste everything anyway.
And certainly don’t skimp on their exquisite cocktails, such as The Gentleman, which brings together whisky, coffee, chocolate and spice in the same glass. Lucky south London!
